Traffic accidents in the United States are rising followed by auto insurance rates are rising. The negative trend is caused by the widespread and increasing habits of using the smartphone behind the wheel.
According to a new US study conducted by State Farm auto insurance Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., 36 percent of people surveyed by the company in 2015 claimed to be sms behind the wheel, while 29 percent claimed to have browsed while driving - - the number is increasing from previous surveys.
The total number of smartphone owners who participated in the State Farm survey has also increased substantially over the past few years - from 52 percent in 2011 to 88 percent by 2015.
The connection between impaired drivers on the road, widespread use of smartphones, and an increasing number of traffic accident accidents is unclear.
But researchers claim that the scope of the problem may be wider than expected, as many drivers involved in traffic accidents rarely admit that they are using the phone.
There are many other factors that can affect such an alarming trend. Lower gas prices and the recovery of the US economy are making more drivers and vehicles on the streets every day, which from there itself leads to a greater potential traffic accident.
